50 Pioneering Women of American Architecture
In 2013, the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation received seed funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to create a special collection within the Dynamic National Archive of Women in Architecture. We are pleased to report that Phase 1—Scholarship/Research is complete, and we are ready to embark on the Phase 2 —a new website to host and distribute this innovative written and visual material.
Contributing authors include Sarah Allaback, Despina Stratigakos, Dolores Hayden, Cynthia Hammond, Gwen Wright, Peggy Deamer and others. Edited by Victoria Rosner and Mary McLeod from Columbia University, “50 Pioneering Women of American Architecture” will provide raw material for new scholarship on early women in the profession. Within the context of broad social changes from 1848 to the adoption of the Nineteenth Constitutional Amendment, women have risen from the status of chattel to almost full participation in contemporary politics and society.
Let’s support these pioneering women!
